A History of Black Psychology
My dissertation-in-progress tells the story of Black Psychology—a movement and academic field that emerged in 1968 when a number of Black psychologists staged a protest at the American Psychological Association conference. Their concerns centered around a number of ways in which racism had permeated the field of psychology, adversely impacting African Americans. Nearly 60 years later, this movement has made a considerable impact in a number of domains, and my project seeks to reconstruct the field’s development and probe some of its many implications for the history of knowledge.
